District Social Worker
BES provides limited school related counseling services. These services are provided by a licensed master social worker and/or licensed school psychologist. Some of the services include:
Individual counseling is available to students (and parents) who are having difficulties in school.
Teacher and parent counseling
A variety of services directed at assisting parents and the teaching staff in their efforts to meet the individual needs of the students is available. Some of these services include:
- collaboration with staff members
- consultation with parents
- collaboration with and/or referral assistance to other agencies and services
Small group counseling
Small group counseling is available as needed during the second and third quarter of the school year. Group counseling provides students with the opportunity to explore common concerns, gain skills in problems solving and goal setting, and lend support to each other. Examples of groups include, divorce, anger management, and social skills.
Classroom prevention activities
These activities are directed toward the development of positive attitudes about self and others, and the acquisition of basic life skills such as decision-making, conflict resolution, and effective communication skills.
As chair of the CARE Team our school social worker facilitates a collaborative process involving staff and parents in early identification of academic, developmental, and behavioral problems. Referrals to our CARE Team can be made by students, staff, or parents.
