MAP – Measures of Academic Progress

This is our second year of administering the Measures of Academic Progress (MAP) to all students in grades Kindergarten through high school in all of our schools.    The information that MAP provides our students, parents, teachers, administrators and Board of Education is remarkable.  Reports generated from the MAP can document growth in math and reading each year.  The MAP measures growth from fall to spring and from year to year.  Over time a profile of student success will be built.

The goal from the group of educators who developed this assessment program wanted to accomplish the following:

  • Measure the growth in each student’s academic achievement over time.
  • Provide information that teachers could use to meet individual student needs.
  • Give administrators data they could use to evaluate academic program effectiveness.

Kansas State Assessments

Our district administers the Kansas State Assessments yearly.  Your school will notify students about the exact dates and times of testing as they are scheduled.  It is very important for students to participate in theses assessments as they provide valuable information about educational progress and achievement.

Students should be encouraged to be well rested and have a nourishing breakfast during the testing period.  Attendance is always important and it is extremely important to avoid scheduling appointments during the scheduled testing days.

AYP – Adequate Yearly Progress

One of the requirement of the No Child Left Behind Act (NCLB) is the annual monitoring of student progress in math and reading.  The intent of the federal law is to ensure that every student is making progress toward grade level proficiency in these areas.

Adequate Yearly Progress (AYP) is the target percent of students who must score at the “Meets Standard” or above on the state assessments each year.

By testing all children, parents and teachers will know the academic achievement of every child, every group of students, and all students.  This enables parents and teachers to work together to ensure that no child will be left behind and to ensure not only school-wide and individual progress, but student group progress as well.
